My three dorm mates were planning to go out and jump the gate of our dorm for party! Since it was “friday night, party night” and it was like a requirement to us that we should go wild and party that night, as what we always do. (hehe)
After our dorm manager did his bed check or like an attendance every night, it was like magic, just a few seconds passed and then Tsaraaan!!! the four of us were already dressed up and outside our dorm waiting for a “pedicab” or lets say a sort of taxi here in Dumaguete City.
We agreed to have the party at “BAKUNAWA PARTY BAR”, as where we always go almost every friday… (hehe). Many students go there and some “young chix”. Minutes passed while setting at the pedicab waiting to arrive. One of our dorm mate recognize the face of the “pedicab driver” . He was our school mate and was a “student assistant” or working student in our University Library.
Our University is famous here in the city and even in our country. It is known as one of the expensive school in Visayas and Mindanao.
Our dorm mate told us about the driver and we also recognize him as we look deeply at him. There was a woman riding next to him at the backseat and I think it was his wife. We were very noisy at the pedicab at first due to our excitement to party and be wasted again. But, silence suddenly all over our ears and heart. Only the engine and the sound of the surroundings touches our ears. We were all depressed and seem to forget that we are going to party.
It was a long ride for us though the party bar is just blocks away from our dormitory. That scene really touches my heart and catches my emotion. And i’m sure it was not just me having that feeling. Two things suddenly popped-out to my mind and I think it was from the deepest part of my heart.
First was that, “Loving someone takes great responsibility”. It was because of the woman at his back seat. I think it was his wife waiting for his husband to have enough money that night maybe for their son’s milk or their dinner that night or maybe for their daily needs. To think that the driver or maybe his wife also is still studying in college at a University.
Second thing was, “I’m very lucky”. Although GUILT was all over my body and mind that time, but I also felt very lucky to have my family still supporting me for school. It really inspired me to be serious on my study and minimize parties and to think brightly on my future.
Yeah, the “Friday night, Party night” went out wrong but it was a blessing and reminder in disguise for us. I was still thankful for that scene until now :)
